You should have left your name...

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesize in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. - Anonymous

Nazrein bole, duniya tole, dil ki zabaan...oh re piya.
My eyes speak, but the world ignores, the words of my heart...my love. -

- from the song O Re Piya from the movie Aaja Nachle.

I forgive you. Forgive me?

02.21.08 (4:07 pm)   [edit]

"We read that we ought to forgive our enemies; but we do not read that we ought to forgive our friends." - Sir Francis Bacon

There is no measure as to which is more difficult - to forgive, or to ask to be forgiven. Not doing either, sets off a trap, seals us within a sound proof glass box that will not let us grow to our full potential. The one unable to forgive is forever the victim, and the one unable to ask for forgiveness is forever the opressor. Both are lables that we would by free will not choose to wear. The unseen burdens that us mortals call guilt and regret weighs heavily on the tortured soul of the forgivee while the forgiver is caught up in mistrust, anger, resentment, or worse...fear. Forgiveness rids us of all such negaitvities. Forgiveness. The mere word has a softness and coolness to it on your tongue and in your mind's eye not to mention within your torn heart. It is the unexpected downpour on a hot day, that firm hand shake or pat on the back from an enemy, a child's embrace after a scolding (for in that action, the message is loud and clear - 'I forgive you mommy, for yelling at me').

Why forgiveness? Becuase it frees us.

"Sometimes I wonder...will God ever forgive us for what we've done to each other?" -

- Leonardo Di Caprio as Danny Archer from the movie Blood Diamond.

Soulmate

02.18.08 (9:36 pm)   [edit]

Soulmate. Not the one you can live with. The one one you cannot live without.

Soulmate. Not the one who needs you to open up. The one who already has the keys to your locks.

Soulmate. Not the one who loves you for who you pretend to be. The one who can see you for who you are, whatever mask you wear.

Soulmate. Not the one who has just seen your finest side and loves it. The one who has seen your ugliest side, understands it and loves it just as much.

Soulmate. Not the one who is just looking at you. The one who is looking at you and yet looking in the same direction as you and seeing the same thing.

Soulmate. Not the one who is perfect. The imperfect one who is perfect for your imperfect self.

Soulmate. For every Adam his Eve. And patience is still a virtue.

Incompatible, it don't matter though
Cos someone's bound to hear my cry
Speak out if you do
You're not easy to find

Is it possible Mr. Loveable
Is already in my life?
Right in front of me
Or maybe you're in disguise

Who doesn't long for someone to hold
Who knows how to love you without being told
Somebody tell me why I'm on my own
If there's a soulmate for everyone

Here we are again, circles never end
How do I find the perfect fit
There's enough for everyone
But I'm still waiting in line

Who doesn't long for someone to hold
Who knows how to love you without being told
Somebody tell me why I'm on my own
If there's a soulmate for everyone

If there's a soulmate for everyone

Most relationships seem so transitory
They're all good but not the permanent one

Who doesn't long for someone to hold
Who knows how to love you without being told
Somebody tell me why I'm on my own
If there's a soulmate for everyone

Who doesn't long for someone to hold
Who knows how to love you without being told
Somebody tell me why I'm on my own
If there's a soulmate for everyone
If there's a soulmate for everyone -

- From the song Soulmate by Natasha Bedingfield

Can you feel it coming?

02.08.08 (6:57 pm)   [edit]

I am gentle like the caress of a cautious lover, stroking your hair, kissing your closed mouth, tickling the back of your neck. My mere presence is a symbol of love. I carry its fragrance. I am playful, coming and going as I please, hiding in plain site, appearing only to surprise you. Like a child, I love pushing your hair on your face, and tugging at the end of your clothes. In my wake, I carry and bring the silent and sometimes audible heart-song of the lonesome and the unperceived flying kiss of the shy.

I can be hurtful and knock you over like the punch of a deranged and abusive spouse. I am fiery and relentless on a hot day. Objects that stand in my way are pushed and smashed as if I were a drunk in a hazy rage. I am the terrorizer of all patriotic bag-pipe playing Scots, of women in skirts, and of men in lungis, for in that regard I am all but a pervert. And I never ask permission.

I answer to no one but God. I am the wind.

Hey hey hey hey hey hey
Tum hein patha to hoga

You must know
Tum hi pe main fida hoon
I am infatuated by you
Tum hein hai jab se chaha
Since then I have wanted you
Hawaon mein udta hoon
I fly in the breeze
Tum hi mere har pal mein
You are in every moment
Tum aaj mein tum kal mein
You are in today, you are in tomorrow
Hey shona hey shona
Hey shona hey shona
-

- from the song Hey Shona from the movie Ta Ra Rum Pum.

The possibilities are endless...

02.07.08 (8:32 pm)   [edit]

Why I chose to stay in the UAE (Dubai):

1. Freedom. I am not on a leash.

2. The nationals. They are still a pure people. Most of them at least.

3. Fresh Chicken King. Only Saudi Arabia makes better shawarma. And they give KFC and Al Beik a run for their money.

4. Melting pot. I have not seen a more multi-cultural place where people get along, racism is kept to a minimum, and every second person you meet is of at least two different nationalities.

5. The beaches. The sea shores here are as close to my destroyed Sri Lanka as it will ever get. The silence, the ever present wind, the sunset, the starry night, and the fact that you can't help but smile at the number of couples enjoying icecream together.

6. Easy on the eyes. For some unknown reason the most beautiful muhajjabas from all over the globe seem to flock here. Masha Allah. Take a glance. Take a chance. Don't stare. And never touch.

7. Hope. For what am I without it? If America is the land of dreams, then this is the land of hope.

8. My friends. They know who they are and what they mean to me. And some guy called Rana, who shall remain nameless, would have cried if I had left. So would have a certain short person. And Sharjah's own McGuiver didn't want to lose his sidekick. I ride shotgun with him. The others wanted to get rid of me ASAP. Kidding people. But I am here. For as long as you will have me.

9. Galaxy chocolate. Nowhere does it taste better. And the fact that its not made outside the Gulf is a sad undeniable fact. Especially for a chocolate lover with the chocolate curse.

10. Its my home. Yes. My home.

Rehte hain abb hum wahan
We live over there
Ishq hua hi hua
Love happens
Dil ko sambhale zubaan
The tongue protects the heart
Ishq hua hi hua
Love happens
Aisi chale jab hawa
When wind blows like this
Ishq hua hi hua
Love happens -

- from the song Ishq Hua from the movie Aaja Nachle.

All that is written here is true. Some of it you will understand. Some of it you won't.
